Training
To be an All-Round lifter, one must practice a lot of different lifts. Since the lifts require proficiency in a wide varity of events, the question arises of how to train.
If an All-Round lifting meet is coming up, you certainly must practice whatever lifts will be contested in the meet. And don't forget strength training.
Training for the All-Rounds should consist of strength training and a fair amount of flexibility training, especially in the sides or oblique muscles. For strength training, the squat and the deadlift are very important. These lifts will increase the overall strength of the body. The shoulder area is very important. A lot of the lifts require overhead lifting. Standing presses would be an excellent choice for this. Side bends will help with the one-handed lifts. The one-hand overhead lifts are excellent for the abdominals, espically the obliques. A little training for the abdominals is always a good idea, too.
A sample routine would be 1. Squats. 2. Deadlifts. 3. Clean and Press. 4. Side Bends or One-Hand Snatch and then the particular lifts you will be doing in an upcoming contest.
